Rafael from Argentina & his experience in Lancaster University

Posted:

My name is Rafael, and?I’m?from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I came to to study BSc Business Analytics, a degree offered by only a small number of UK universities.??

In three words, my experience at Lancaster University has been adventurous, challenging,?and intellectual.?

Campus?life and?societies?

When I arrived at Lancaster, I joined the Barbell Society, Ping Pong?Society?and the Latin American Society. These groups have played a huge role in my social life, and?I think societies?are the best way to make friends.?The Latin American Society events are my favourite; as someone from Argentina, these gatherings feel like home. We cook traditional meals, share?stories?and enjoy music from our region.?

Favourite places?on?campus?

Lancaster University felt like a mini city?– I?didn’t?expect it to be so big. When friends or family visit, I show them the?Sports Centre, the library and the Management School, all central to my?university life.?For studying, I prefer the?library?or the upper floors of the?Management School; quiet, focused spaces. When I need a break, I head to?Costa on campus, where I enjoy a coffee and watch the world go by in Edward?Roberts Court.?

On campus, I love eating at The Marketplace because?it’s?healthy,?affordable?and friendly.?Other great?spots include?Pizzetta Republic, Fylde Bar and of course, a fast-food favourite: Greggs.?

I train at the gym five times a week, and?it’s?more than exercise,?it’s?my social outlet, especially during busy weeks. I also love going to Lancaster’s Vue cinema and reviewing movies with friends. These hobbies keep me balanced and connected.?

Settling?in and?homesickness?

Making friends helped me settle in quickly?at Lancaster.?Before arriving, I worried about whether I was making the right decision, but watching YouTube videos and speaking to students on the?Unibuddy?platform who were studying similar degrees helped reassure me.?

Lancaster?city and?travel?

Lancaster is a?student-friendly?city that feels safe and welcoming, with a cafe culture that reminds me of home.??

I’ve?also taken advantage of the train station to visit Morecambe, the Lake District, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bath, London,?Cornwall?and Edinburgh. These budgeted?trips were unforgettable, and I even got to attend football matches?for?Manchester United at Old Trafford.?

Scholarships,?careers and?studying?

I received a?scholarship?from Lancaster University,?and as an international student, this financial support made a significant impact.?

Through the Employment and Recruitment Service, I became an International Student Ambassador and later a Student Ambassador Leader,?flexible roles that boosted my CV.?

My degree has given me skills employers want, and my?final?year?project with a real client showed me what a Data Analyst role involves.?I’d?recommend this course at Lancaster University to anyone interested in data and its application in business.?

The teaching staff are incredibly supportive, and?I’ve?even chosen to continue with a postgraduate degree in data science?at Lancaster.?
